Baby Boomers Religion

Friday, January 27, 2012

Most of my baby boomer friends are thinking a lot more about the hereafter now that they have reached their sixties in most cases and memories of past times and especially past failures come back to haunt them. Is this you? I have good news for you, it’s OK if your faith is in Jesus and His blood shed for you.
Why would I say that after all the sins that you have committed ? After all the failures you’ve made at marriage, and your walk with God, partying and sexual sins and stealing and envy and outburst of anger, and lying and gossiping and on and on you sins go, way too many to mention. Here is truth…God is not afraid of sin and He is not angry at you for all the things you have done in your life. Why not ? Because He sent His son Jesus to pay the entire penalty for you and me. Sound too good to be true ? Well, it’s is so very true.
In 1st John 2:1,2 it states : ” ….and if anyone sins we have an Advocate (one who speaks or writes in behalf of another) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the PROPITIATION for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. I bet you don’t use propitiation in a sentence very often if ever but what it means is that it equals satisfaction. Christ is the only offering that satisfied God concerning sin. It means that God’s wrath was satisfied by the death of Christ and the explanation in I John 2:2 emphasizes the removal of sin by the the sacrifice that satisfied God. Sin interrupts normal relations with God; expiation (something that explains or interprets meaning) removes sin and restores the relationship.
So if you truly believed in your heart that Jesus is Lord and the Son of God and you truly believe that God raised him from the dead as stated in Romans 10:9,10, then you are born again of the Spirit of God. You see God’s grace is always there, and your faith (belief) that Jesus shed His blood for your sins brings the Holy Spirit to reside inside of your spirit. The great news is that seed is not perishable, it cannot be removed ever. Ephesians 4:30 states ” Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption” Your salvation is sealed forever and ever. Nothing you do or did not do can take that away, ever! You do grieve the Holy Spirit when you sinned but you salvation is not taken away from you. All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.
There is not a human who has stopped sinning, not one! Every Pastor, every priest, every church goer, every non church goer continually sin. Every Christian sins, there is none without sin, no not one. The big difference is when your saved, you’ve got Jesus with you always and the veil to heaven is wide open for you to come right into the throne room of God the Father and pray anytime. No High Priest has to go into the temple for you, the veil was torn in half when Jesus died.
Now it’s true many sin much more than others and many fail worse than others, but all have come short, everyone, you, me, all humans. That’s why it’s so wonderful that Jesus is the propitiation for our sins. You sins are not imputed to you any longer. There is no way on God’s green earth that you can perform you way to heaven, it just can’t be done. Jesus is the answer, the only answer period. If your trusting in your good deeds or church attendance or what you have or have not done compared to others, your in serious legalism and bondage. If you think baptism saves you, you have made the blood of Jesus of no effect. No act on your part will increase your chances of going to heaven. Now works are good as it shows your faith, baptism is good and commanded to be done AFTER you have believed. Helping others is good, giving is good, but nothing can negate the blood of Christ ! God gave His son Jesus and Jesus laid down His life freely for you and me because of one thing LOVE.
Love is the only commandment we have. To love God with all our hearts all our soul and all our mind and love our neighbor as our self. That’s the only law we live under now. Jesus fulfilled the law and broke the curse of the law. We live under grace with faith in love. Probably the only thing we will be asked in heaven is did you learn to love……
