Since the beginning of time, God has had a plan and that plan includes blood for the redemption of mankind. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the alter to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”(Leviticus 17:11) Whoever slaughtered the ox or the lamb or a goat had to bring it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to the Priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to the Lord. And the Priest sprinkled the blood on the altar (for atonement).
It is the blood that saves you and cleans your sins, but not the blood of bulls or goats, but the blood of Jesus Christ who suffered and died upon a cruel cross to pay for the sins of the whole world. “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.” (Hebrews 9:11-12) Jesus is the mediator of a New Covenant. “For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed by the blood, and without the shedding of blood there is NO forgiveness. (Hebrews 9th chapter) Jesus having offered One Sacrifice for sins for all times, sat down at the right hand of God. (Heb 10:12) “And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.”(Heb 10:17-18)
“But my righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, My Soul has no pleasure him.” (vs 38,39) “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”(Heb 11:1) “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and I will never desert you nor will I ever forsake you.”
“ For it is by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is a GIFT of God.”(Eph 2:8) The thief on the cross had faith in Jesus that He was truly the Son of God and spoke from his heart “ Jesus remember me when You come in Your Kingdom!” And He (Jesus) said unto him.”Truly I say to you , today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”(Luke 23:42,43) He got to heaven the same way anyone does by using his faith in Jesus! He did not come by the back door as some suggest because Jesus was God and the old covenant was in effect, no he used his faith and the grace of God saved him.
Now there are some who say you must be baptized to be saved but that is not the truth. The thief wasn’t baptized. There are 72 examples of being saved by Faith in the Bible and only “one” that states baptism saves so which would you choose? Some say that being baptized is for the remission (forgiveness) of your sins, not so fast there. Jesus was speaking in Matthew 26: 28 and said “for this is My blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the remission (forgiveness) of sins.” We are buried with Christ through baptism but not to be saved. It represents Christ death and our death to sin as believers but salvation is from faith, the word of faith that Paul and the Apostles were preaching and states explicitly in Roman 10 the following: “The word is in your mouth and in your heart-that is the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the HEART man believes resulting in righteousness and with the MOUTH he confesses resulting in SALVATION.” To back up this point of faith in Galatians 1:8,9 Paul says “But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so I say it again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed.” Another gospel was being taught of works in Galatians; it was circumcision which is a work for salvation, just as baptism is a work for salvation, it is another gospel.
It basically makes the shed blood of Jesus of NO EFFECT if you need to do a work that only man can do which is baptizing someone. Why do you think Paul said he was glad he didn’t come to baptize but to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ? No, No, No, Jesus shed blood + water baptism does not equal salvation, only faith in Jesus bloodshed for your sins and faith in Him as Lord is salvation. Anything added to Jesus bloodshed for the forgiveness of our sins is another gospel! There is no work or works on this earth that will save you. Jesus said “This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” Do you suppose Jesus lied? I don’t think so.
Those people who want something plus Jesus or some kind of work plus Jesus for salvation, are just like Israel in Romans 9 who were pursuing a law of righteousness. They didn’t get it like the Gentiles did, which is by faith, because they did not pursue righteous by faith, but as though it were by works, they stumbled over the stumbling stone. Just as it was written, “Behold I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”They had a zeal for God but not in accordance with knowledge. Christ is the end of the Law!
Jesus said “the wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes, so is everyone who is born of the Spirit meaning so is everyone who is gets saved! You can’t be born again by getting dunked in water! You can’t get saved by doing good works! You can only be born again by faith from your heart believing on the Lord Jesus Christ and confessing Him with your mouth! The entire book of Galatians was written to people who started in the faith but then added works of the flesh for salvation. You do good works because you’re already born again and saved and love people, NOT to be saved. The book of James was pointing out that fact. The fact is that you show your salvation and faith by doing good works that blesses others, the fact that you’re already saved produces good works and good fruit and that is what people see. You can’t see faith but faith in action is doing something good like works of kindness or works of speaking blessings or healings or praying for others. The Spirit blows but you can’t see it; however you can see good works.
So to sum it all up, don’t be fooled into thinking that anything except Jesus Christ sent by the Father in heaven, coming in the likeness of sinful flesh and dying on the cross and shedding His blood for us, paying the price in total for all time and every sin of the world and by faith in Him alone and the gospel of Jesus will save you and allow the Holy Spirit to enter your spirit producing the born again experience. You are saved by your faith, not water, not works, not church membership, not anything but God’s grace and that isn’t even from you. Its repenting of your faults and sins and asking Jesus to save you and believing it when you pray it. And the good thing is once you have done that from your heart, Jesus will bring you through this life. You have passed from death to life by believing and putting your FULL TRUST and FAITH in Jesus……
