Concerning Repentance

Concerning Repentance

Some people came to Jesus who reported to Him that the Galileans blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices and Jesus said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this fate? I tell you no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Jesus went on to say; “Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worst culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? I tell you no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13)

So in today’s terms, do you suppose that all those practicing the occult are greater sinners than other people? Do you suppose all those bound up in sexual immorality are greater sinners than the general public? Do you suppose that thieves, or liars or abusers of women and children are greater sinners than the general public? Do you suppose those committing adultery or fornicators are greater sinners than the general public? Do you suppose those bound up in drugs and alcohol and pornography are greater sinners than others in the general public? Do you suppose that you are any better than all those just mentioned? The truth is, unless you repent from your heart you’re no better than all of those people and in the final end you’re headed for the same fate as all of them;  the lake of fire at the end of your life. Do you think just because you have done none of those things listed above, you will not be judged for the sins you have done?  Jesus was saying all are sinners, everyone and unless you repent, you have no hope and you will perish.

Do you suppose those who die in all the natural disasters were worst sinners than you? The tower in Siloam fell and killed many and Jesus said they were no worse culprits than all the men living in Jerusalem. And neither are those who die in storms and floods and earthquakes and sinkholes and fires and disasters and airplane and car crashes. How is it that you judge all those who die, but not look inside your own heart and judge yourself and repent?

The parable that Jesus told next was pretty clear about the future of those who would not repent, but the good news is those who do will be blessed and will be saved. And He (Jesus) began telling this parable: “A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any. And he said to the vineyard keeper, “Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?” And he answered and said to him, “Let it alone sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; and if it bears fruit next year, fine, if not, cut it down.”

How many years has Jesus been calling you to repent and be saved? How many years has God been tugging at your heart strings to repent and turn back to Him with all your heart? How long will God’s mercy last for you, three more years, three months, three weeks? How long will you continue to reject His love and mercy until you are cut down? The free gift of Salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ is always there waiting for you, but how long do you have, how long will His grace abound towards you? At some point will the tugs on your heart stop? Are you worse than all the people in this story, no, but unless you repent, you will perish.

America, Europe, and other nations where the gospel has been brought have thousands, perhaps millions of people who were once saved but have stopped living for God. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, but that holy fear of our God who is a consuming fire is lost in their hearts. Especially in America I see half hearted Christians with one foot in the world and one foot in church. I see those who profess to know God live like the devil and I see those who once knew the power of God to now deny His power and the power of the gospel. The church in America who has long been the salt of the earth, has lost it savor, it keeping, its flavor and turned what was blessed into self indulgence and sin and godlessness. What more could have God done for America. The most blessed nation on earth who lived in great prosperity and wealth and led the world in helping other nations and giving has pushed God out of its government, out of its schools, out of its homes and has now been slowly become rotten, smelly and full of gross immorality and the price is yet to be paid in full, but the signs are everywhere for her destruction. The same is true of all people who turn away from God, the end is destruction. I was there, fallen from grace, but now in full repentance I have returned to my first love, Jesus and so can you before it’s too late.

The feel good gospel, the prosperity gospel, the no repentance gospel has been preached for the past 50 years and now many millions have been deceived and led to slaughter by believing in a false gospel that is all about them instead of all about Jesus and what God has done. If anyone thinks they can live like the devil and continue a lifestyle of sin and rebellion and make it to heaven, they are sadly mistaken. Those who deny the power of the gospel are doomed to reap those consequences of unbelief. Salvation is not in word only, it is the power of salvation, but it is from the heart, not from the head or just from teaching. Now anyone who has been truly saved by grace through faith and have repented from the heart and prayed Romans 10:9, 10 or called upon God to save them because of the blood of Jesus are on their way to heaven and losing your salvation is not an option. But for those who responded to an alter call not really repenting of their sins and turning around are sadly still lost and you can see it by the fruit they bear in their lives. Thinking they are saved, living anyway they choose, thinking that they can just sin all they want because of God’s grace are not born again of the spirit.

Like it or not, 1st John2:3,4 says “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandment.” The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandants, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.”

Look at your own heart. Is this you? Don’t lie to yourself; can you honestly say this is you? And what are His commandments? Jesus said that you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself and said there is no greater commandments than these.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Have you repented from your heart? Do it now while you have this chance, repent as Jesus commanded and give your heart and life to Him and follow Him for the rest of your life. This age is winding down and Jesus is coming soon….Are you ready to meet Jesus?
