Your Big Mouth
The words that you speak during your time here on earth have the power to bring life or death to you, to your family, to friends and to everyone you meet in your life. Jesus is the word of God and became flesh and dwelt among us John 1 states and all things came into being through Him. In fact everything was brought into being by the words He spoke. Incredible as it may seem to the human mind, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things have been created through Him and for Him (Col 1:16).”
Now since Jesus spoke everything into being, His words were super powerful, and the words He spoke definitely had life in them. Now as humans He gave us the power to bring life or death into our realm of daily existence just by the words we speak, in fact, He said all of us will be judged by every single solitary word we speak while we are alive. That’s a scary thought if you fear God, but there is hope.
When being questioned, (actually being harassed), by those in the Synagogue in Matthew 12; Jesus made some very profound statements about words that people speak. “…For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” I know what you’re thinking; oh my, I have said thousands of things that were wrong, things hateful, things in anger, things in judgment of others, curse words, and just plain cursing others by slamming them in some form or another by what I have said or written which comes out of my heart.
People speak out curses never realizing what they say are actually curses heaved upon others. A parent says “you’ll never amount to anything” throwing curses on their children. Husbands and wives throw out curses on each other during a verbal fight, over any number of issues. Throwing out curses even on themselves with statements like “I’ll be damned” used as an idle statement meaning “I am surprised or I can’t believe that.” In today’s social media you see it over and over again, the idle things people say in texting abbreviations beginning with WT* or OM*G or any number of other blaspheming texts. Jesus said every careless word, every means all inclusive, every word will be part of your personal judgment.
If life and death are in your tongue or in your heart to be texted out by your fingers, shouldn’t you be very careful what you say and write? Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tounge, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Never has cursing been so accepted and the “F” bomb used by even elected officials and the general public everywhere in public domains. More and more cursing is ok to use on television and most movies are becoming a cesspool of garbage to the ears damming the very God who loves us so much. Everyone has cursed with their mouth and cursed others at some point in their lives, whether realizing it or not, but there is hope.
If words are so important, then when it comes to your salvation and where you will spend eternity, your words carry the weight of life or death. That is exactly why Romans 10:8-11 states: “But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart—that is the word of faith which we are preaching. That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Surely you have done this! If not do it now!
If God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins because of Jesus; then the words we pray in repenting contain life and God hears us and forgives us. All of us need to ask God to forgive us for every idle word and every cuss word and every curse we have knowingly or unknowingly placed on others by our big mouths or written words by simply asking Him to forgive us for all the wrong things we have spoken or written and tell God we take back; all the evil words we have said or written in our lives. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7).”
In the Day of Judgment our words will condemn us or our words will justify us. Those who deny Jesus in this life will be denied eternal life and the Lord will use the words they spoke while alive on earth and by their own words they will be lost. God doesn’t send anyone to hell; they go to hell by their own words and their own choice. Words of faith can be positive or negative, but all words have faith behind them, either for good or evil……That good word of faith is near you and in your mouth, speak it out from your heart.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through FAITH; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.”(Eph 3:14-19)
Moving about the earth on your daily journey, at work or play; guard your Big Mouth by holding your peace and speak words of life to people not cursing them, but blessing them. Don’t curse God, but bless Him. Every morning you wake up pray and ask out loud to God for His grace for the day and then by your own mouth receive it in faith and watch how this will actually change your life. You may not have any fewer problems, but you will have His grace to go through anything and everything without the normal stress this life can bring. God loves you so much and wants you to have peace everyday…….
