Isaiah prophesied in the time between 740 B.C. to 681 B.C and the book of Isaiah remains one of the most quoted books of the Bible, but few, however; understand its significance in proclaiming that God takes takes no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats and sacrifices, but one was coming who would be the Ultimate sacrifice for sins of the people.
God was fed up with the hypocrisy of practicing religion and bringing offerings while living very sinful lives. Does that ring a bell? Look at America and Europe, it’s worse today than ever. He said it this way: “ Bring your worthless offerings no longer,
Incense is an abomination to Me.
New moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies—
I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
14“I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me;
I am weary of bearing them.
15“So when you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you multiply prayers,
I will not listen.
Your hands are covered with blood.
It’s the same today worshipers full of iniquity and full of unrepented sin pretending everything is ok as they attend solemn assembly’s on Sunday mornings. So what does the Lord say to them? “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
Cease to do evil,
17Learn to do good;
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.
He’s telling us the same thing today repent repent repent of your hidden sins and do good and stop being evil, then lift up holy hands in worship and prayer and He will hear you.
Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the LORD,
“Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.
19“If you consent and obey,
You will eat the best of the land;
20“But if you refuse and rebel,
You will be devoured by the sword.”
Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Devoured by the sword? How about war and nukes today? Whether it’s 700 B.C. or 2019 sin is still sin and hypocrisy is still hypocrisy and justice is still justice.
Prophecy about Jesus is so clear in Isaiah 53 it’s mind blowing how Jewish people and others for that matter couldn’t see it, the plain truth right in front of your face:
“ He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
3He was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
And our sorrows He carried;
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten of God, and afflicted.
5But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
6All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.
7He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He did not open His mouth;
Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
So He did not open His mouth.
8By oppression and judgment He was taken away;
And as for His generation, who considered
That He was cut off out of the land of the living
For the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke was due?
9His grave was assigned with wicked men,
Yet He was with a rich man in His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.
10But the LORD was pleased
To crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
He will see His offspring,
He will prolong His days,
And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand.
11As a result of the anguish of His soul,
He will see it and be satisfied;
By His knowledge the Righteous One,
My Servant, will justify the many,
As He will bear their iniquities.
12Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,
And He will divide the spoils with the strong;
Because He poured out Himself to death,
And was numbered with the transgressors;
Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,
And interceded for the transgressors.”
