I’m amazed how many people who are believers in Jesus Christ don’t bother to get baptized because they think they are saved and don’t need too, even though Jesus commanded it. The excuses are many and they don’t hold water (pardon the pun).
Faith without works is dead and it takes some effort to go and get baptized which really is a work that ultimately gives the Holy Spirit permission to move and work in our lives, but it’s much more than that, let’s take a look at a few examples.
First let me say baptism in and of itself is not salvation, it takes a sincere repentance from our hearts asking forgiveness for all our sins after we have come to believe from our hearts Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son. But it’s more than that, it means we have decided to follow His teachings and worship and love Him with all our hearts. Unless we come to Jesus as little children we haven’t really come at all. God requires a humble heart and He resists the proud.
Excuses are so lame when what it really amounts too is unbelief and laziness or a lack of total commitment to God which is required. You can’t be a halfhearted Christian when it’s convenient, lukewarmness will send you to hell as Jesus said “ I will spew you out of my mouth.” If you’re afraid to get baptized in public all that really means is your a coward, unless you live in a Country where you have to keep your beliefs underground or risk dying. The time to have courage is now.
Doctrines like “once saved, always saved” are demonic at the root and have no basis from scripture. The truth is you must remain faithful unto death to faith in Jesus and by His grace we are saved through faith and that faith includes baptism and believing what the Bible says.
Matthew 28:19 Jesus said “ 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. This is a command from the risen Son of God!
Mark 16:15,16 “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. So here Jesus says whosoever believes AND is baptized shall be saved. Again this is the Son of God telling us we must be baptized, no excuses.
Acts 16:30-34 “30Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32Then Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house. 33At that hour of the night, the jailer took them and washed their wounds. And without delay, he and all his household were baptized. Here we see the jailer believed Jesus is Lord and he and his entire household got baptized that very hour of the night. So what’s the rush to be baptized you might say? The rush is baptism is part of your salvation, without it you’re on dangerous ground. Remember Jesus? “ he who believes AND is baptized shall be saved.” I don’t care what your pastor or priest has taught you if it goes against the truth of the Bible and you shouldn’t either.
Romans 6: 1-7 “1What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? 3Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
5For if we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in resurrection. 6We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. 7For anyone who has died has been freed from sin. And when someone dies do we just sprinkle a little dirt on them and walk away? No we put them in the ground. So Baptism is our watery grave being buried with Jesus and rising to walk a new life, and in the future resurrection to rise again to glory because we have been water baptized. Our old self is crucified with Him so we are no longer slaves to sin. Do we still sin? Yes but we are not slaves to sin and verse 14 states “For sin shall not be master over you for you are not under law but under grace.
Baptism is cutting off sin from our flesh. “11In Him you were also circumcised in the putting off of your sinful nature, with the circumcision performed by Christ and not by human hands. 12And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.” Still think baptism is optional? Think again.
I Peter 3:21 “ In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water. 21And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him. Baptism is a necessary part of salvation, Jesus said so and the above verses prove it and there are many more verses not mentioned here for space sake.
Finally, some denominations preach the heresy that because the thief on the cross didn’t get baptized and made it to Paradise with Jesus, they don’t have to either and baptism is not necessary. Well that’s bunk and here’s why:
“20When Jesus saw their faith, He said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
21But the scribes and Pharisees began to contemplate this and ask, “Who is this man who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
22Knowing what they were thinking, Jesus replied, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’ 24But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins…” He said to the paralytic, “I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home.”
Jesus has authority to forgive sin and that’s exactly what He did for the thief on the cross. Besides Jesus had not yet died and risen so His command to believe and be baptized had not taken place or gone into effect yet. Being baptized in the likeness of His death could not happen until He had died and arose from the dead. This is an excuse for not wanting to be baptized or to back ones church doctrine, it’s heresy.
Now many who fight about this are themselves baptized so go figure, it’s just another doctrine of demons that crept into the church in America, Christians in other nations never believed this false doctrine. Romans 10:10 is true “ 8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,”that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.” AND so is Romans 6:3,4 “3Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.”
We must be born again by the Spirit to see the kingdom of God and when you believe and are baptized you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit if you believe the Bible in Acts 2:38-39 For the promise is for you and your children….it doesn’t come from the water, it comes from Jesus…
